Every kilobyte consumed by a Rune transfer is a kilobyte that could have been used for a settlement transaction. Speculation audits the soul of value. Moreover, the security model of Bitcoin relies on miners being paid fees. If fees are driven by hype rather than genuine economic activity, the fee market becomes volatile. Bitcoin's strength is its simplicity. Runes complicate that simplicity without adding any meaningful security. They are a Rolls-Royce hauling cargo โ€” impressive to look at, but fundamentally the wrong tool for the job.
