XRP's December Prediction Says $1.63. The AMM Pools Say Something Else.

CryptoBen โ€ข โ€ข Security

Hook

Right now, XRP sits at $1.61, and my phone has not stopped buzzing since the Asia open. Up 9.81% in 24 hours. Up 14.2% on the month. A market-signal reading of 73 out of 100, which in plain English means the crowd is greedy and enjoying it. Every group chat I belong to is a wall of green candles, rocket emojis, and screenshots of a $2.38 price target captioned "December is ours."

I nearly bought the mood myself. Then I opened the XRPL data, pulled the seven-day AMM volume, and read the one number that rearranges this entire story: 97.24%.

That is the share of XRP Ledger automated-market-maker volume running through pools that never touch XRP. Not most. Not a lot. Ninety-seven point two four percent. The chain is busy. The token is standing outside its own party, holding the door.

I have covered this asset since before the SEC lawsuit, since before Brad Garlinghouse was a fixture on every conference stage and Chris Larsen was a name whispered in Nairobi fintech circles. And I have learned that the loudest number in any room is rarely the honest one. The headline sells you $1.63. The pools hand you the actual verdict.

The silence after the pump tells the real story. It always has.

Context

To be fair to the model I am unpacking, the December XRP prediction is not propaganda. It is a probability distribution wearing a headline. The median lands at $1.63. The 80th percentile โ€” the bullish case โ€” reaches $2.38. The 20th percentile โ€” the bearish case โ€” sits at $1.18. And tucked at the far edge, the number almost nobody repeats, is a tail marker at $0.42.

Three numbers. One narrative.

And the narrative is seductive. XRP survived the SEC. Ripple is signing banks. The ETF is a when-not-if. America is loosening, adoption is real, and the chart is finally paying attention. Stack those four together and December writes itself, no analysis required.

Here is what the poster leaves off. XRP at $1.61 is already trading almost exactly on the median of $1.63 โ€” a two-cent gap. The market has priced in the middle of the debate before the debate finished. And the model's own recent history swung between $1.52 and $1.69, a full seventeen cents of drift, in a matter of weeks. A framework that cannot hold still for seventeen cents over a month is not a forecast. It is a mood ring with a spreadsheet attached.

I lived through a version of this in the 2017 ICO era, when I sprinted to cover a Paragon Coin launch in Westlands while my male colleagues dismissed it as vaporware. My instinct said go to the physical room, and the room gave me an exclusive. That instinct has since matured into a rule: when a number becomes the trade, the crowd stops analyzing and starts waiting. The anchor becomes the position. That is a trap, not a thesis.

Now apply it. If everyone is anchored to $1.63, then the market is not discovering a price. It is auditioning for one.

Core

Let me show you where the token economics actually point, because this is where the story turns cold for the bulls.

Start with the AMM pools. They are the cleanest mirror XRPL offers. An automated market maker is a simple animal โ€” a pool of two assets, priced by a formula, traded against by anyone with a wallet. If XRP were the economic heart of the XRP Ledger, you would expect XRP-denominated pools to dominate volume. Instead, 97.24% of the seven-day AMM volume runs through pools that exclude XRP entirely.

Sit with that number and ask what the Ledger is actually for. It is not primarily a rail for XRP. It is a venue for other assets โ€” largely stablecoins and issued tokens โ€” to trade against each other. XRP is the doorman, occasionally collecting the cover charge, while the guests dance. The party is real. The doorman's cut is not.

The cover charge matters, and I will not pretend otherwise. The XRPL burns transaction fees, and every account requires a small locked reserve of XRP, so there is a structural, permanent trickle of demand. But the trickle is exactly that. Against a circulating supply in the tens of billions, the fee burn is a rounding error. And here is the part the enthusiasts skip: the fee burn is the only deflationary force in the entire system, and it is too small to move the needle. XRP has no staking lock. No protocol revenue share. No buyback. No dividend. Holders receive one thing for their patience โ€” the hope that somebody else pays more.

Then there is Ripple Payments. This is the genuinely impressive part of the story, and I want to give it its due. A Korean regional bank, Jeonbuk Bank, has deployed Ripple's payment infrastructure. That is real. That is enterprise adoption. That is a regulated financial institution betting on Ripple's rails, and it should count for something.

But watch the sleight of hand. The announcement discloses no XRP transaction volume. Not a dollar figure. Not a corridor. Not a single line about how much, if any, XRP flows through that deployment.

That silence is loud. Ripple has every incentive to trumpet XRP usage when it exists โ€” the token is its single best marketing asset and its founders hold a mountain of it. When a company stays quiet about the metric that matters most, the rational read is that the metric is not flattering. I have verified this the hard way. In 2021, I praised a generative-art project off a casual conversation at an exclusive viewing in Mombasa, only to learn the smart contract was a honeypot. The backlash was brutal, and it taught me a two-source rule I have never broken since. Applied here: one source is the bank announcement. The second source, the XRP volume, does not exist. So I do not trust the first.

Here is where the pieces click. Ripple's ODL product โ€” On-Demand Liquidity โ€” uses XRP as a bridge asset for cross-border transfers. That is the mechanism that would give XRP hard, functional demand instead of speculative demand. But ODL is optional. A payment corridor can run on XRP, or it can run on fiat pre-funding, or it can run on stablecoins. Ripple the company earns revenue either way. XRP the token benefits from exactly one of those three.

Guess which one the bank announcement described in detail? None. Guess which one the stablecoin data points to? Stablecoins.

Because alongside all this, XRPL just absorbed a $1.1 billion stablecoin surge. That is the ecosystem growing fast โ€” in the direction that needs XRP least. Stablecoins are the neutral settlement asset. They have no price narrative to defend and no foundation to fund. If I am a bank treasurer moving money across a border, a stablecoin is a cleaner bridge than a volatile token that can swing nine percent while my wire clears. Coinbase's USDC taught the market that lesson years ago, and SWIFT's slow crawl into tokenized settlement is teaching it again.

So we have two datapoints pulling the same direction. The AMM pools bypass XRP. The stablecoin growth competes with XRP. Both describe a chain where activity rises while the native token's role hollows out from the inside.

I have seen this pattern before โ€” not in payments, but in liquidity mining. During the 2020 DeFi Summer, I lived inside governance forums and Twitter Spaces, capturing the raw sentiment of retail traders who felt priced out by gas fees. I watched projects rent their total value locked with token emissions and call it organic growth. Pull the subsidy and the deposits vanished within days. The metric was real. The demand was not. XRP runs a slower, cleaner version of the same illusion: the chain's usage is real, but the token's claim on that usage is weak.

Now layer on the market mechanics, because the rally is not pure spot buying. $7.4 billion in volume and a CME short squeeze tell a more mechanical story. A short squeeze is what happens when leveraged bears are forced to buy back, and that buying is involuntary. It lifts price without reflecting conviction. It borrows tomorrow's demand to pay today's candle. When the forced buying finishes, the price usually hands back a chunk of what it borrowed.

And then the macro, which is the master switch for everything. The Fed lifted rates 25 basis points into a 3.75%โ€“4.00% range. The ten-year real yield climbed to 2.76%. Bitcoin is soft. When real yields rise, assets that produce no cash flow get repriced first, and XRP is the purest no-cash-flow asset on the board. I need you to feel the full weight of that: the higher the real yield, the more expensive hope becomes. And hope is the entire XRP case.

One more technical layer, because it is the kind of detail I have learned to check since the honeypot. XRPL's consensus runs on a federated Byzantine model, a UNL validator set that is relatively centralized compared to Bitcoin's open proof-of-work. That is not a scandal. It is a design tradeoff that buys speed and cheap transactions. But it also means XRPL's settlement guarantees are only as strong as the validator set, and its governance is corporate-adjacent rather than permissionless. For a bank corridor, that is a feature. For a token claiming to be decentralized money, it is a caveat the marketing pages tend to blur.

Put it all together and the XRPL is a fast, cheap, quiet chain doing real work โ€” mostly work that pays the stablecoin issuers and the issued tokens, not the token whose name is on the door.

Contrarian

Now the angle you will not find in the prediction piece. Everyone is debating whether XRP prints $1.63 or $2.38 by December 23. Almost nobody is asking the more important question: what kind of chain is XRPL becoming?

The AMM data and the stablecoin surge give a coherent answer, and it is not an XRP answer. XRPL is drifting toward being a settlement venue โ€” a neutral rail for stablecoins and issued tokens โ€” rather than a value-accrual layer for its own native asset. The chain grows. The token's slice of a bigger pie shrinks. That reframes the entire December debate. If the bullish case rests on "XRPL is thriving, therefore XRP must rise," the pools quietly demolish the premise. Chain activity and token price are decoupling, right now, in slow motion, and the prediction models cannot see it because they read price, not pool composition.

There is a second blind spot, and it lives inside Ripple itself. Ripple the company and XRP the token have divergent interests. Ripple maximizes revenue by moving money as efficiently as possible โ€” through whatever asset works, including stablecoins and fiat. XRP holders capture value only if that movement runs through the token. When those goals separate, the company wins and the token waits. That is not a conspiracy theory. It is corporate incentive doing what corporate incentives do. Every quarter that Ripple signs a bank using non-XRP rails is a quarter the company grows while the token treads water.

And there is a third blind spot, the one that makes me most nervous: the anchor effect. With price at $1.61 and the median at $1.63, the model has accidentally become the market's leash. Traders stop building positions and start waiting for the number. The number then looks validated because price drifted into it, and everyone points at the validation. None of that is analysis. It is a shared story we are all telling each other until December 23, when the story either lands or does not.

The silence after the pump tells the real story. The pump is the CME squeeze and the FOMO and the ETF hope. The silence is the AMM data nobody posted in the group chat.

Takeaway

December 23 is not a finish line. It is a checkpoint, and even a clean win at $1.63 would prove only that a model read a mood โ€” not that XRP found a floor beneath its price.

What I will watch is not the chart. It is the XRP-denominated share of AMM volume; if that 2.76% slice climbs, the decoupling thesis weakens and I will say so, publicly, the same way I ran my apology-and-audit livestream after the honeypot. It is Ripple's next ODL disclosure, whether it finally names XRP volume. It is the ETF file, the CME open interest, and the ten-year real yield, which remains the master switch for every no-cash-flow asset alive.

Until the pools change, the pumps are just noise wearing a price tag.

A subtle ghosted hand holds a magnifying glass over the "97.24%" statistic.
